Get your little feet summer-ready
Oh boys, I've waited a long time for this moment, but finally the little feet can be bare again. Is there anything nicer than the first day you can slip your feet into a sandal? But only if your bare feet are presentable, you know, I know. You really don't need to go to the pedicure for that, because with these 8 steps you can make your feet summer-proof in no time.
1. The base
Let's start at the beginning. Make sure your little feet and nails are always clean and free of dirty black edges. Fill a basin with warm water (or of course a nice bath) with a fizzing or special foot bath tablet in the evening. Let your feet soak and then clean your nails with a special hoof stick.
2. Scrub
Try to scrub your feet once a week. This way you remove the last dead skin cells and your feet become nice and soft.
3. Drying
Dry your feet well, especially between your toes. Use a hoof stick to push back your cuticles. Do this carefully to prevent inflammation.
4. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
Use a special foot cream every evening before you dive into bed. Massage the cream well into and around your nails.
5. Calluses
Summer feet and calluses obviously don't go together. There are many different ways to remove calluses. I personally use a callus file because I have very little callus on my feet. For the real work, you use a callus plane, callus grater, or a special pumice stone block. If you go over it with the file once a week and keep it up, it saves a lot of time. Make sure your feet are completely dry, then it goes a lot easier. Most calluses are on your heels, the ball of your foot, and the outside of your feet, so make sure to go over those areas a little extra. Don't forget to moisturize them with a greasy cream afterwards. When you've removed your calluses, a sensitive spot will remain.
6. Problem areas
If you suffer from ingrown toenails, fungal nails, or warts, make sure to visit the pedicure in time. Don't walk around with it and don't try to fix it yourself; these are problems that you can't solve on your own. Always wear well-fitting shoes and alternate them. Always wear clean socks and walk barefoot where possible.
7. Cutting
Now that the heavy lifting is done, we move on to the smaller maintenance. Make sure your nails are always neatly cared for. I personally file my nails after cutting them, as this gives a nicer shape than just using a nail scissors.
8. Painting
Last but not least: painted toenails are an absolute must. My toenails are painted 365 days a year. Always apply a base coat, which prevents discoloration of the nail. Go for a cheerful spring color or a classic French manicure. Use two layers and possibly a top coat for longer-lasting beautifully painted nails.
And then only a nice brown color is missing. Come on, let's hit the terrace!
