ON THE WALL

This is how your Instagram feed becomes the most beautiful in the country

I am Lilian and I am addicted to Instagram. Hi Lilian. Well, that’s out in the open. And you know, it’s really not that bad. Because together with over 3.2 million Dutch people, I use Instagram, of which 1.5 million are serious diehards like me. Look, Facebook is nice too, to see your long-lost elementary school friend again for example, but Instagram is the place where in our world the magic really happens. A life-sized collage of selfies, a portfolio of still lifes, and an ode to everything you love. And all of this framed on your Instagram feed. We take inspiration from the it-girls and I’ll share all the tips and tricks to transform your Instagram account into one of the most beautiful accounts in the country. What am I saying? In the world. So, are you in?

Step 1 Copying from the pros

Better well stolen than poorly conceived. Really, copying is allowed. Take a look at the ‘featured’ section. Or see who your favorite Instagram lady follows back. There’s a good chance you’ll find the inspiration source of the it-girls this way. Not in the mood or don’t have time for a web search? Then I suggest clicking the follow button of @sincerelyjules, @mija_mija, @collagevintage, @figtny, @mikutas and of course our Dutchie @queenofjetlags.

Step 2 Choose your color

If you’ve just peeked at the pros, you might have noticed; the perfect match lies mostly in staying true to a certain color theme. So create a color palette for yourself with about five base colors and two to three accent colors.

Step 3 Cut your frame

Whitagram is the app you want. Hello total outfit look, goodbye cut-off feet. Thanks to this app, not only do all your photos fit into Instagram’s square frame, but white spaces also provide calmness and cleanliness. And that immediately scores extra points for your account.

Step 4 Preview planner

Do you know that moment when you’re just getting into your feed and then suddenly upload a not-quite-right photo? The likes come pouring in, so you don’t want to delete it. If only you had used a different filter. Bummer, but these kinds of ’first world problems‘ are a thing of the past thanks to the Preview app. Download it and you’ll never want to be without it. I’m sure of that.

Step 5 A Color Story

You’re almost done in the App Store, you know. The only app you still need to download, in my opinion, is A Color Story. You can buy filters, but there are quite a few good ones that are free. You can save your favorite filters and the adjust tools are awesome. Photoshop has nothing on this; you can edit the perfectly lit photo here.

Step 6 Be yourself

Last but not least: be yourself. Sounds a bit cliché, but followers follow you, so try not to pretend to be someone you’re not. If you’re having a bad day, don’t keep up appearances and make a joke about it. Because let’s be honest: no one #wokeuplikethis with perfectly curled hair or flies to a fancy hotel every weekend. It’s in the little moments of happiness, so: inspire! Then your account will be among the names in step 1 in no time.

And, I started my new feed last week. Don’t judge too harshly, okay? I’m curious what you think. @lilianbrijl
