Fuss around Pepsi and Kendall Jenner
‘Live bolder, live louder’ is the slogan used in the latest campaign from Pepsi that was launched yesterday. But the advertisement column featuring top model Kendall Jenner has received quite a bit of criticism online. It’s time to break it down, because the criticism the ad receives is that it supports resistance. You see a group of protesters walking down a street, the same street where Kendall is found for a photoshoot. Wait, you know? I could explain everything nicely now, but take a look for yourself:
You understand now: launching a campaign where people are protesting in a country where numerous protests have taken place before and after the elections after Trump became president and then incorporating a Pepsi drink into it, suggesting that drinking this is the solution, is not smart. Kendall handing her drink to an officer looks a bit too much like the famous photo of protester Ieshia Evans during the Black Lives Matter movement in Baton Rouge in 2016. But unlike Evans, Kendall is not arrested.
Pepsi itself still stands behind their campaign. ‘This is a global campaign where people from different societies come together in a harmonious way and we believe that is an important message to convey,’ said the Pepsi team.
Sorry Pepsi, I think this could have been done differently. Better luck next time.
