So. And now finally vacation.
I am the kind of person who is very bad at planning a vacation. So bad that the last time I really went on vacation was in 2014 when I went to an island in the Caribbean with an old love. Now, it's not that I haven't been away in the meantime, quite the opposite. Last summer I was still in New York for Fashion Week, I have been back and forth to Paris several times, I took four days in Greece, but all of this was for work (yes, yes, annoying, I know), so I always had my laptop with me and as soon as I could, I fished that laptop out of my bag and started typing. Now, it's not my intention to come across as a spoiled brat, because of course, traveling is not free and you have to be able to afford it all, but taking time off, really being truly free, not working, nada: I just can't do that. It's a bit of a combination of having a job that I genuinely do with so much love and also using it as a distraction to push the less pleasant things in life aside.
It started with a break-up with that same boy with whom I last went on vacation, followed by the journey of a father with cancer and his passing. I have written before.
about death and how it needs to be talked about, but dealing with loss varies from person to person. My way of coping was to immediately get back to work and fill my days so intensely that I had no minute for myself. So especially avoiding vacations, because that's when you have the time to think about it and I would rather be a busy bee than sad. For someone in the same situation: I understand you, but please don't do it. You need rest. Vacation is important, whether you go abroad or not. And this is why:.
It reduces stress and as you know: stress can lead to burnout, which is of course the very last thing you want. Taking time off is good for your health and after a study by The New York Times, it also appears that people who only go on vacation once every two years have a higher chance of depression or burnout.
- It's good for your concentration and also provides a fresh dose of inspiration.
- Quality time with your family/friend/friends is important and going on vacation together allows you to spend time focusing on each other without being distracted by work matters.
- It also helps prevent irritations around you. I must honestly admit that I sometimes got very upset about people who regularly took time off. But why actually? They take good care of themselves and I can learn something from that from time to time.
- So,.
I am ready for vacation, and let me now beautifully be sitting with my butt on the beach of the Portuguese coast while you read this. Without a laptop, okay? I left that beautifully behind in the Netherlands. This girl is now really out of office. Tchau! I am the kind of person who is very bad at planning a vacation. So bad that the last time I really went on vacation was in 2014 when I…
