Soon to Porto?
Here you go
Porto is a city that you immediately fall in love with. It’s bursting with culture, everything is within walking distance, and hello: they make port wine there. So that’s my discovery of 2017. In three days, you can explore the whole city (steep hills are good for the butt), the food is amazing and cheap, so good for the piggy bank. I can't shout it loud enough that Portugal is totally Amayzine-proof. If you're looking for a cool city trip: this is your place and I’ll immediately reveal the best spots.
Taberna do Largo
Move over gin and tonic; port and tonic is the shit and you drink it here. With cheeses and super soft slices of charcuterie on your board. Tip: around 9 PM it’s full of Portuguese people, so go a little earlier for a spot.
Address: Largo São Domingos 69
Bacchus vini
You’re not going to tell me that you’re going to Porto without drinking port, right? That’s what I mean. Are you looking for a nice spot for a drink? Right by the quay with a view of the bridge? This is your spot.
Address: Rua da Lada 14
Tapabento
Tapas lovers, pay attention: you want this. Check TripAdvisor if you don’t believe me. If you don’t make a reservation, I’m afraid you won’t get in, that’s how popular Tapabento is. Very tasty (and Instagram-worthy) tapas plus Portuguese wines that you’ll fall in love with. And the hostess? You’ll want to kiss her. Trust me.
Address: Rua da Madeira 222
Sushihana & The Gin House
Yeah sorry, you either let Kiek make that list or not. If you want to eat incredibly delicious sushi, I suggest you grab a bite here. Great service, delicious gin, and fusion sushis with delightful combinations, and every dish is a work of art.
Address: Galeria de Paris 92
Lado B
If you want to lunch like a true local: here you eat the best francesinha according to experts. That’s a kind of fancy toast with a thousand slices of cheese, ham, a sausage in a bath of port. It looks terrible, but it’s an experience when you’re in Porto. My tip? Share one together, because otherwise you won’t need to eat for the next ten years.
Address: Rua Passos Manual 190
Casa Guedes
I got this tip from a follower on Instagram and it boiled down to this: You. Must. Eat. A. Sandwich. Here. And. Order. A. Bottle. Of. Wine. Seems clear enough. And I’ll tell you: the pulled pork sandwiches are out of this world. Casa Guedes is run by two brothers, you won’t find anything more authentic.
Address: Praça dos Poveiros 130
Pizza Presto Baixa
I’m a sucker for good pizza spots. Typical Portuguese? Nah. Tasty? Hell yeah. Here they sell paper-thin pizzas as it should be, a kind of flammkuchen idea. Chill for when you want to keep it a bit quieter budget-wise but still want to eat out.
Address: Rua da Fábrica 56
Oh and, if you’re like me totally in the Portugal vibe: Lisbon is also really the shit and I’ll tell you why here.
