Packing up

On average, I make twelve trips a year. Some longer than others, but each trip requires a well-filled suitcase, even if I'm just going for one night. The difference between three weeks and three days is almost negligible for me in terms of luggage; that toiletry bag has to come along anyway. And one pair of shoes is not enough for a person to walk on. And I want to exercise. Or at least I intend to exercise. Just in case.

The packing starts a few days in advance. I let my thoughts wander through my closet and think about what fits best for the upcoming trip. Then I hang that clothing in sight and complement it with accessories. In short, I am not a light traveler. And I am also not one of those who just throw everything in.

To complete the fun, I then place my suitcase next to it, because I have the cutest suitcases in the universe. They immediately make you happy. I have two carry-on suitcases in pink and yellow (where my daughters have competitions rolling on their bellies) and a mint green giant for the big work. SUITSUIT (the brand of the suitcases) made me even happier when I discovered the inner pockets. Really. Since then, I have been flaunting my suitcase. I just hope that customs stops me when I arrive at Schiphol; I have the neatest and best-organized suitcase of them all. At least, that's what I think. My shoes are neatly packed in a separate shoe bag, and I have two toiletry bags in the same color as my suitcase, which have very nice sub-compartments that keep everything neatly organized. Then I have a smaller compartment for underwear (also quite awkward when all the coziness of Victoria’s Secret hits you in the face when you just want to grab something from your suitcase) and I keep one bag for laundry on the way back.

When my suitcase rolls off the baggage carousel, other people almost start clapping; it looks so cheerful (yes, it’s a ‘she’, yes). And so do the customs officers. Don’t they see right away that I really shopped with a crooked credit card and actually had something to declare? Haha. Do you also want such a cheerful travel companion? Here you can find them: SUITSUIT.
