The 7 commandments for buying a fleeky winter coat
Did you know the story of Kiek who went on a jacket hunt? And, more importantly, do you hear the past tense in this sentence? Ha, me too. My Karen Millen pearl (read here for a moment) went over the counter with a 25 percent discount due to ‘Christmas sale’ and, eh, I never said I have a strong backbone when it comes to discounts.
Anyway, problem solved then. I have a jacket. You don't yet? I'll help you. Time for the 7 commandments from jacket land.
1. You shall orient yourself in advance
Trust me: it saves a WHOLE lot in the harsh search. Do you want fluffy? Do you want a hood? Or do you want a neat coat? Do you want a zipper or rather buttons? A jacket in one color or with a pattern? Color or basic?
2. You shall never skimp on a winter coat
It's the first thing people see when you walk in, you wear it almost every day for the coming months AND it protects you from the cold and the rain. Think of it as your new best friend. Your body is worth a good coat, okay?
3. You shall wear a sweater while trying on
Because let's face it: snowman is your middle name in winter. And nothing is as annoying as a winter coat that is just a bit too tight.
4. You shall pay attention to the sleeve
Because too short is not an option. Test: stretch your arms forward and see if the sleeves don't ride up. Especially when cycling, it's really annoying if your sleeves turn out to be a bit too short. It's also handy to check with a longer model if it sits smoothly at the hips for cycling.
5. You shall stock up during the winter sale
Suppose you really want to invest in one piece: then choose wisely at least. Or as your grandma would say: that's how Jan Splinter gets through the winter. Discount = life. So definitely check when there are big discount days coming up.
6. You shall think about the Dutch climate
Because, eh, is that huge fluffy pino or that suede jacket smart in the drizzle? Just saying.
7. You shall come up with at least 5 outfits to rock this jacket
And if you really have a nice jacket, you can do it within a minute too. Think of your jacket as your winter home. Can you see yourself living in it? Then go for it!
