The big fridge clean-up

Okay, as you may already know, you are dealing with quite a case of OCD here (my roommate too, so no worries, nothing to worry about). My wardrobe is completely Marie Kondo-proof, my paperwork neatly organized in different folders, and the perfume bottles are sorted by color. But even when you open the fridge, you know you're dealing with me. And that last part is actually not so strange. Because did you know that it actually matters where you place your food in the fridge ? Make a sprint to your kitchen, because we're going to take a good look at things.

Every spot in the fridge has a different temperature. The coolest spots are the back of the bottom and top shelf, and the warmest spot is the middle shelf in the door. Want to know where to place what? Then keep reading.

Top shelf

The top shelf of the fridge is one of the coldest spots. It's best to store jars here that are not used much or that have already been opened. Think of jars of pickles, jam, but also fruits like apples, grapes, and melon.

Middle shelf

The middle shelf is the best place for Tupperware filled with leftovers, a piece of Parmesan, or a box of eggs.

Bottom shelf

Together with the top shelf, this is the coldest spot in the fridge. Raw products like meat and poultry are best stored here. Fish is best eaten fresh, so on the same day. But your pot of yogurt or cup of cottage cheese can also go on the bottom shelf.

Vegetable drawer

Besides vegetables, fresh herbs can also go in the vegetable drawer. Wash your herbs immediately upon returning home and wrap them in kitchen paper, this way they stay fresh the longest.

Top shelf fridge door

Your pack of butter, cream cheese, and other soft cheeses are best placed on the top shelf in the fridge door.

Middle shelf fridge door

Your bottle of ketchup, dressing, and jar of mustard don't need much cold and can go on the middle shelf in your fridge door.

Bottom shelf fridge door

Last but not least: your pack of almond milk, bottle of sparkling water, and other drinks can shine on the bottom shelf. And yes, that bottle of wine too.
