Amayzine

The most fun little shop in NY

Yesterday we joined a private dinner in a super cool apartment between East Village and China Town. There I sat at the table with all nice people (artist Arty Grimm, culinary journalist Mara Grimm, cultural attaché in New York Joost Taverne, and Allison, the agent of Sarah Jessica Parker. I had to solemnly promise myself that I would act very casually and normally about it, although I considered three times asking the waiter for a sandwich bag to get my breathing, which was bordering on hyperventilation, back under control.

But Allison was just fun. Of course she was. The fact that I was just a size zero handshake away from Sarah totally slipped my mind because we were having such a nice conversation. About fashion (“OMG, I LOVE your skirt”), about babies, about New York, and of course about the best shops. If she knew a good magazine store. For sure. Casa at number 22 on 8th Avenue. Tiny, but they have everything you want and everything you didn’t know you wanted. And if they don’t have it, they’ll order it and it will be there the next day. And oh yes, Diane von Furstenberg (you know, the woman behind this great tip) came there every morning to buy fresh magazines.

I had to go there. So we walked to the pilgrimage site and indeed, this is Nirvana for magazine makers. All the beautiful titles are there. CR, Interview, I-D, MILK, and a hundred other titles. There was only one missing. Exactly. Amayzine. But if I sweetly ask Allison to secretly put one aside for me, she will surely do that. And then you’ll see that we might suddenly end up on Sarah’s reading table.

By the way, would you like to pre-order our new magazine? Email info@amayzine.com and you’ll have it before it hits the store. With Bella Hay, Noor de Groot, Claire Cliteur, Emma Deckers, Kae Sutherland, Vivian Hoorn, and all the important shows of this season. Let me know, and I’ll send it to you personally. Love from New York, May
