The search for the

perfect deodorant

One of the most important things in my bathroom is definitely the bottle that refreshes my armpits. Because during a good workout, it is important that the smell in those problem areas remains bearable. If I find something disgusting, it’s the smell of sweat in the gym, and I don’t want to contribute to that. But what I find just as important is that what I apply or spray under my arms contains as little poison as possible. Because did you know that 9 out of 10 deodorants contain a lot of junk that ends up in your body through your skin? We do think about what we put on our face or what we put in our mouths, but those armpits also have to endure a lot of nastiness. It is mainly the substance aluminum chloride that is the culprit. Fortunately, over the years it has become increasingly clear what aluminum in deodorant means and what health risks it can bring. In 2016, an article appeared in the Financieel Dagblad reporting the conclusions of a Swiss study, which showed that women who regularly use deodorant containing aluminum chloride have an increased risk of breast cancer. Additionally, using deodorants with aluminum (that substance is used as an antiperspirant) could increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s. And all that because of that one small, but oh so often used bottle in your bathroom.

‘Trust me, you want this.’

You understand that I have thrown all my deodorant bottles, hats off, in the trash. And there were many. One in the bathroom, one in each sports bag, one in my regular bag, one on my desk at the editorial office, and oh yes, also on that of all my colleagues. They just don’t know it yet. Don’t think that it will now be a sweat fest at the editorial office; I have simply very subtly swapped all the bottles for a responsible version. So from Vichy. The well-known cosmetic brand has ensured that I now stand in the gym with not only protected and pleasantly scented, but also healthy armpits. I’m happy, and the people around me are happy too. Vichy’s new mineral deodorant is free from aluminum salts and also contains no alcohol or parabens. The deodorant is made from mineralizing thermal water that originates in the French volcanoes and is rich in 15 minerals that provide a strengthening, soothing, and refreshing effect. Up to 48 hours of fresh armpits without being harmful to your body. Trust me, you want this.
