The theory behind the duckface
Maybe you still remember when you saw it for the first time. I do. The first thing I thought was: ‘huh?‘ and then I had to laugh very. hard. But really very hard. Actually, I also thought it wouldn't last, because who would want to be captured like that in a photo? Here, my fingerspitzengefühl let me down grandiosely. The duckface was here to stay.
From the anti-movement, I have imitated it several times. Sucking in cheeks, pouting lips, staring a bit owl-like from the eyes and ending up on the ground with tears rolling down my cheeks, because this is just not a sight? But as in: really not a sight. No one looks like that naturally. And if nature makes you look like that, then you have been quite taken in by mother nature.
But now I stumbled upon something interesting, because there is a plausible theory that the duckface is a hit. Social psychologist Agneta Fischer from the UvA is an expert in facial expressions and has her thoughts on it. The duckface would suggest the idea of a budding kiss. And if Bella looks like she finds you sexy, then you feel more attractive and desired because of that. Ha, actually we are doing this silly, wacko facial expression to ourselves.
The reason why I am still rolling on the ground laughing is not known or scientifically proven. Maybe you still remember when you saw it for the first time. I do. The first thing I thought was: 'huh?' and then I had to laugh very. hard. But really very hard.
