The truth about sun protection

The sun is shining. Oh boys, the sun is shining enormously. You can't make me a happier person. That vitamin D makes me a better person and that's why I take every second to bring my sunny side up.

Do you know what else I do? I immediately run to the store for a suitable sunscreen. As much as I love those sun rays, my skin panics. I have extreme sun allergy. And nine out of ten sunscreens make it even worse. Yes, crazy actually, right? And now I received an incredibly good message from Drs Leenarts. She is launching a new suncare product that is particularly suitable for sensitive skin. Think: no parabens, perfume, wool alcohols, or nanoparticles. I see options here, ladies.

“An incredibly good message
from Drs Leenarts”

And now that I was chatting with Marjolein Leenarts, I immediately got the facts and myths about sun protection for you. Not necessary yet? You might think so, because you really need to start applying now to protect your skin. Research from Drs Leenarts shows that we love to apply sunscreen at the beach, but this is often forgotten at a festival or nice terrace.

Therefore, especially for you, the truth about sun protection:

  1. A factor never protects completely. Factor 50 works for only 98 percent and with factor 30 you are only 97 percent safe.
  2. The Association of Dermatologists advises factor 30, because people feel safe with factor 50 and then only apply once a day. Much too little, of course.
  3. Suncare is never 100 percent water-resistant, so it's always good to apply again after swimming.
  4. Sometimes a brand says that after applying once you can be safe in the sun all day, but that's complete nonsense.
  5. The factor of your protective product decreases over time. So it's wise to buy a new bottle every year.
  6. And such a nice scent in your sunscreen? It can easily cause an allergic reaction and it doesn't matter at all whether it's a natural or synthetic fragrance.
  7. 1 in 5 people in the Netherlands gets skin cancer. Yes, that shocks me too. It is therefore extremely important to protect yourself well against that sunny sun.

I'm going to enjoy that French sun in Paris again, but with a bottle of nice sunscreen in my bag. Au revoir.
