This is how you make Doutzen's bun

Sometimes I let a hairdresser cut just an extra centimeter off my hair. I am a member of team easy-going. That means something like: you go three-quarters of the week with your hair on top of your head . It's not in my fingers, that curling and waving. That's why I love the bun so much and make sure from time to time that it's impossible to create one. On day one it's nice and messy, then it tends towards chic or it just looks nice and simple. In the latter case, I have a bad hair day where even with a bun there's nothing to fuss with.
But I have love for one topknot in particular: the bun of Doutzen Kroes. Look, I'll never get that body, but the hairstyle is achievable. Provided it's crafted into a bun, because the strands are also far from it.
This is how you make the casual version:
For a messy effect, you start off by loosening up with some dry powder or salt spray at the roots of your hair, because that makes it just stiff enough. You take rough strokes with your fingers through your hair to the back, keeping it casual, and create a parting in the upper and lower half of the bunch, about a centimeter above your ear. Leave the upper half as it is and make a high ponytail with the lower half. You do this immediately in the position where you want the bun to be. In Doutzen's style, that's diagonally on the back of the head, but well positioned high. Gather the loose part of your hair together with the ponytail and casually twist it around until you have the perfect bun. Secure the strands with pins so that you can't see the elastic anymore. Gently loosen the bun a bit with your fingers for some extra casualness. Voilà; a bun like Doutzen has.
This is how you give the bun a chic upgrade:
Did you think bun day can only be casual? Think again, because you can easily give the topknot a chic touch. Instead of going for a messy effect, you brush the hair tightly back. Go through the steps as in the casual version, but make sure the hair stays smooth and close-fitting. It even fits a gala, as Doutzen simply proves. Finish it off with some shine spray that also fixes it and you're chic.
