This is how you make tofu
There is always a pack of tofu in my fridge. When I don't know what to eat, there is always tofu. You can make anything with it, and it is easy to digest. Yet, there are very few people who know what to do with tofu. Do you often find yourself holding a pack of tofu but have no idea what to do with it? Especially for you, girlfriends: what is tofu, what do you do with it, and how do you prepare it deliciously?
Tofu is rich in protein and incredibly versatile. Because it has a very neutral taste, you can actually come up with all kinds of marinades to spice up your tofu. In the Netherlands, we mainly know firm tofu and silken tofu. Firm tofu is ideal for marinating, frying, grilling, and incorporating into curries. Silken tofu is especially nice to use in creamy sauces and desserts.
When you are going to prepare firm tofu, it is important to let it drain first. This makes it drier and allows it to absorb the flavors and marinade better. Wrap a kitchen towel around it, place something heavy on top, and let it sit like that for a while. You can also freeze the tofu to make it firmer. First, cut the tofu into slices and then freeze them. Take the tofu out of the freezer when you are going to use it. Let it drain and place it in the marinade. This way, your tofu will be crunchier after frying.
If you find yourself holding a pack of tofu tonight, also throw the following ingredients into your basket right away. The tastiest tofu is made like this:
