WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND
By Theo Bakana
Hi Easter eggs, did you have a good time? Yeah sorry, I'm a bit late but hey, I only see you once a week, so not my fault. And then I also have a second question right away. Because didn't you find this week a bit confusing? Tuesday was actually Monday and now it's Thursday... Oh no wait, it's Friday after all. And then we already have King's Day next week, so actually these weeks together are one big holiday. But all jokes aside, it's the weekend. We do need to save some energy, so let's keep it medium, okay? As in: light activities that don't require too much energy from you, that way you'll be all set on Thursday, whatever floats your boat. Now first... weekend.
Best club in town
Okay okay, I said we would take it easy, but we're skipping out for a moment here. For this one, I'm happy to make an exception. Why? Think: the best r&b, hip hop, and disco hits, served by a hot and sweaty DJ team in one of the best beach tents in Scheveningen. Do I need to say more? I don't think so. Cluptown is where you want to spend your Saturday night the most. And it only lasts until two in the morning, so it doesn't have to get out of hand at all. This way there's enough time to save your energy for King's Night/Day and that kind of nonsense.
‘That way you'll be all set on Thursday, whatever floats your boat.’
Denim for days
If you're looking for a more relaxed outing; no problem. This weekend, the Gashouder in Westerpark, Amsterdam has been transformed into one big pair of jeans. Or as the experts say: denim. Not literally of course; the Amsterdam Denim Days are taking place this weekend. And the keen observer may have already been there this week. What should you think of? Exhibitions, denim markets, award shows, and a whole lot of denim fabric. Are you putting on your best jeans? I'll see you there.
Namastay in bed
Of course, you can also stay in bed all day. I could do that when I was younger, or at least back in the day... I sound really old now, but I haven't even hit a quarter of a century yet, so it's not that bad. In any case, as a child, I lived for pajama day, that was the ultimate. But times change and so I often go from horizontal to vertical on weekends (unless the gin tonics from last night are still in charge). But to stay in the chill, a little yoga class now and then is a pretty good idea, especially in an extra special location. This weekend you can go to Soia-Strand Oog In Al for that. ‘WHAT DO YOU HAVE?’ I hear Simone and Elke thinking. Soia is the cutest city beach in Utrecht and on the rooftop terrace, you can follow a really nice yoga class on Saturday morning. Namasté-y in bed? No, then off to the terrace, feet in the sand, and gazing at the passing boats. I already feel relaxed just thinking about it.
Salty Sunday
To give the weekend a festive yet relaxed twist, you should head to Razmataz in Amsterdam on Sunday. There, starting at three o'clock, the Salty Sunday drink begins and as they describe it themselves, you can seek the sun, slurp on oysters, and toast with Pouilly-Fumé. I don't think I could have phrased it better. Starting at three means you can also crawl under the covers by ten o'clock. With this new Netflix series for example.
Just take my word for it: peaking early means dropping fast. So let's take it easy this weekend, that way you'll be fresh and fruity for the new week on Monday and also a bit recharged for Thursday. Elke will soon tell you about the best activities at Willy’s Big Birthday Bash. I'm off to the ginger tea, see you next week.
Holla (in a gangster-American way, you know me).
