What you need to know
about aftersun
Enjoyed lounging in the sun? Then you’ve of course been diligent in applying, including all the corners, stripes, and forgotten areas. After such a hot session, you take a cool shower and then it’s time to apply aftersun. Or not? I completely missed out on that bottle after a boat trip on Saturday. That bottle was empty, so I turned to my good old moisturizing cream. Better something than nothing, right? But I have no idea if that’s enough, and that’s why I went on a quest. This is what you’ve always wondered about aftersun and now you get an answer.
The cream versus a bottle of aftersun
To immediately take you out of the big sun illusion: aftersun doesn’t always work better. If you have a body lotion with the right ingredients, antioxidants plus soothing and restorative agents, then you’re also completely fine in aftersun terms.
In the bottle
The skin feels a bit dry and has taken a beating. It needs hydration on, in, and under, but not only that. The skin has a barrier that needs to be restored and strengthened. So make sure it contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, or glycerin. I know; a mouthful, but if the doctor says it…
And you can skip this
To get the skin completely zen again, you use soothing products. It’s just the intention that it’s not just for a moment to make it worse afterwards. I call that the Big Mac effect. You’re super hungry, grab a Big Mac, it disappears for a second and then it only gets worse. If there are ingredients like alcohol or menthol in your lotion, you’re experiencing the Big Mac effect. It cools for a moment, but does nothing for your skin. Look for a bottle with licorice root extract or the tried and true aloe vera.
What you apply on which area
Do you have a nice lotion that is the flagship of everything I just listed? Kudos from the doctor. But the skin on arms and legs is a different story than on the face. Here you should grab a good moisturizer. And let Jetske have the perfect one in the assortment. Just click here.
