Why snail slime doesn't necessarily help your skin and this does

Gold, caviar, snail slime, bird poop, and placenta… Enough bizarre things that are used in skincare products. Women are willing to pay exorbitant amounts for the promise of eternal youth. Two hundred fifty euros for a jar? Five hundred? A thousand? Undoubtedly, there are precious ingredients in these creams, but do they really help? Opinions are divided on that.
I myself have the experience that expensive is not necessarily good. Unless it’s about the Diamond Extreme Cream from Natura Bisse. That is truly the best stuff on earth and I still hope that someone – even anonymously – will send me a very large jar. But further, it is not said that gold, a popular ingredient nowadays, does anything for your skin. On the contrary, gold is a known allergen and can even cause damage. Sometimes it seems that cosmetic manufacturers are at a loss for what to put in the jars for a good sales story.
In any case, what you put on your skin is not the only ingredient in the recipe for beautiful skin. Your skin is an organ, remember? What happens from the inside is just as important as what you apply from the outside. Therefore, my own five points for a healthy, radiant skin.

  1. Healthy eating. If you wonder to what extent nutrition affects your skin, I recommend that you try not drinking alcohol, not eating sugar, and avoiding everything with E-numbers (chips, ready-made meals) for ten days. Eat extra salmon, walnuts, blueberries, raspberries, green leafy vegetables, and drink liters of green tea. Bet you’ll see a difference?
  2. Lots of movement. Not only is good blood circulation important for your skin, but strength training also stimulates the production of growth hormones. And you want growth hormones! As many as possible. So off to the gym. If not for a bikini body, then for a wrinkle-free face.
  3. Connective tissue massage. Here I am again. It’s a kind of facelift, especially if you do a course of a few sessions. I go to Joëlle de Haan in Haarlem (powerskinbyjoelle), but our Simone swears by Charley Huf (charleyhuf.com), who combines connective tissue massage with acupuncture.
  4. Your skin keep hydrated. It’s very simple. If something is dry, it develops cracks. Just look at a rubber band or the Serengeti. Keep that skin supple.
  5. Vitamin A acid. This is the only ingredient that has been proven to combat skin aging. Vitamin A stimulates the skin's cell division, resulting in a softer and more supple skin. Previously, you had to look sweetly at your dermatologist to get a jar prescribed, but recently our own doctor Jetske Ultee has launched the unique Vitamin A Serum on the market. This serum is such a sales hit that you have to be on a waiting list to get it. It makes sense to start as early as your thirties, as your skin starts to decline then.
