4x this way you have power without talking
Power is a strange phenomenon. And displays of power even more so. You probably know it: the person who approaches you with an outstretched arm (usually of the male kind) and tilts your hand just so that it firmly lies on top. Small tip: wrap your second hand around his hand, it seems very warm but boy, do you have him in your grip. Or you place your other arm on his shoulder. Just look who is superior.
Here are some tips you can take from roosters.
1. Sit back
Okay, you should be able to afford this because if you just started a new job, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you have the stamp of boss, then you can occasionally sit back a bit in a conversation. I know many television bosses who like to drape their feet on the table, indicating that they have reached the highest state of confidence and have little to fear from life. And they enjoy that you are there, that's true too, but they are not really impressed by you, sorry, they are mostly impressed by themselves.
2. Whisper
Did you think the bully with the booming voice had the power? That's usually a flailing type who needs his voice to feel secure. He would have preferred to thump his chest, but he has, with difficulty, unlearned that. No, the real leader doesn't need to shout. He/she is beyond noise. He/she has so much power that as soon as the lips are opened, everyone looks at him/her. And whisper, then everyone has to do their best to listen to you. If that works, then you are far.
3. Affection
If you are on the right side of power, you can touch someone. You decide. If you can give someone who works with you a hug or pat them on the shoulder, it's your turn. Look at Obama who always grabbed the shoulder of the other. Warm and charming, but also very much in charge, because no way would anyone dare to do it back.
4. A few more tips
Be the one who ends a conversation. You hang up, say you have another appointment, that you have to go now. Also, let the other person send the last email or message. That person thanks or confirms, you leave it at that.
And, dear friends, that is one of the few nice things about getting older: the older you get, the easier it all becomes. So come on, put those legs up on the table and start whispering.
