Yeah right, it's not always long live the fun, cat pictures, and penises. Sometimes you have those moments when you need to take a deep breath three times to land back on your feet. I had it last week. Waking up with a dull zombie feeling, dizziness, and a headache. I recognized it from an earlier period when I had taken on a whole fucking hay barn. The nice thing about your body is: it signals when it’s all a bit too much. Time for you to listen to it. These are the signals you get in advance.
You are irritable
You might not want to admit it, but you are cranky as fuck. Every standard question gets on your nerves. What are we going to eat tonight?! You think of something for once, man! Not being able to control these kinds of grumpy outbursts is a sign from your body that you need to take it easy.
You sleep poorly
Not being able to fall asleep, worrying for hours at night, and suddenly having a lot of unpleasant dreams. Additionally, you wake up feeling tired.
It feels like you are always short on time
Which means you usually take four tasks to bed with you at the end of the day, and the next day you feel like you’re already starting with a backlog. I always notice it by the neglect of my inbox. No energy to open invoices. Even the important things just don’t seem to work anymore. Not cool.
You are tired
You suddenly yawn a ridiculous amount in a day. Your body feels heavy. You constantly feel like sleeping. Let it be clear: stress drains energy, and so you are also extra tired during a stressful period. But you also can’t sleep well, so there goes the vicious circle of misery.
You can’t concentrate well
Your focus is shit. Finishing tasks suddenly takes three times as long. You become forgetful, then you notice that things aren’t going well and you start to worry because you’re not working ‘fast’ enough, which makes you stress even more.
You take zero time for yourself
When was the last time you took a nice bath? Read a good book? Painted your toenails? You don’t remember.
Recognizable? Ding-dong, friends. This. Is. Your. Wake-up. Call. Time to hit the brakes and life will smile at you again. Plenty of sleep, little scheduling of appointments, lots of time for yourself. You got this.
