7 top reasons to book that trip to New Zealand this year
It's a long journey, but according to everyone who has been there, New Zealand is absolutely worth it. You almost get a bit spoiled by all the beauty around you. My sister just came back from there and I called her for all the ins & outs. So today: 7 excellent reasons to book that ticket down under.
1. Nature stuff
Hi volcano, hi spouting geysers, pristine forest, glacier, fjord, and beautiful coastline with golden beaches. Hi nature that changes almost every half hour, Lake Pukaki and a young calf frolicking in a green valley landscape while you see the sea in the background. Hi national parks where you have to pinch yourself. New Zealand is the globe at its most beautiful. You know it and you want it.
2. The different islands
New Zealand consists of three islands, but it's really about the two main ones: the North Island and the South Island. Think of the North Island as having slightly warmer temperatures and subtropical islands, while the South Island looks like a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movie set. Bright blue lakes, bizarre mountains, and endless valleys. The variety makes it special. Hello nice Insta snaps!
3. Relaxation at its best: you can drive everywhere yourself
Traveling through NZ equals freedom and enjoying cruising at your own pace. You can easily drive through the country with a rental car or camper. And thus also stop at all those amazing photo spots. Each one more impressive than the other.
4. The locals are the sweetest
And they are seriously called kiwis. Brilliant. As hospitable, enthusiastic, and helpful as the kiwis (stop thinking about fruit now) you don't come across often. “Don't be surprised if you are invited multiple times to have dinner at people's homes during your trip,” my sister said. “They love a chat, offer help immediately if you need to find your way, and are genuinely interested in what you are doing and the rest of your journey.”
5. The culture
New Zealand has a rich culture, with the Maori culture being the most well-known. Did you know that 14 percent of the New Zealand population still identifies as Maori? They warmly welcome tourists with their manaakitanga, a.k.a. hospitality.
6. Because you are quite an animal freak and your heart races at signs along the road that say: 'Watch out for crossing penguins.' Sea lions on the beach, bizarre little birds, whales, and dolphins in abundance. And what about all those sheep? New Zealand has more sheep than people.
7. It's time to finally treat yourself to that dream trip.
That week in Ibiza in June is great, but secretly your heart has been dreaming of this for years. Come on, you're young, NOW is your time to shine. Go and discover the land of the kiwi, because curiosity is the most valuable possession you can have.
Go go GO!.
