7 x Why you want a garden room

(And specifically the one from Wolfstyles)

My house is amazing, but it has one downside. The garden. Or better said; the almost complete absence of the phenomenon garden. My garden is a tiny little slice where the sides have decided to meet each other as quickly as possible at a point. It is a deep, long, black hole. Moreover, I don't really have a green thumb, so it's a bit of forgotten ground. A few weeks ago, Judith de Klijn came to spice up my interior a bit. Philips came home to shoot a video, and I thought it would be nice if she could freshen things up a bit. She can do that like no one else. She looks at what you have, gives suggestions for change, adds fun throws and candles and other things you need, and voilà, you fall in love with your own house.

Now Judith has a particularly handy man who came to help hang a few paintings. He took a look at my garden and spoke the magic words: “But you need a garden room.” I mumbled that it would never fit, but he persisted. Of course, it would fit, and it only took three to four days. Anyway. The room is there, and I have a feeling of joy bordering on infatuation. Ours is a real Wolfstyles, a concept in the world of garden rooms, I know by now.

A garden room from Wolf and Thijs is just the thing, and here's why.

1. You get extra living space

Since we got the garden room, we only sit there. When the kids come home from school, they crawl there with their iPad or book on the couch or dive into the big chair. Nothing is more fun than turning on the heat lamp with the remote control or lighting the fireplace together with me. But even when I'm in the living room in the morning and it's still dark, I turn on the light in the garden room and instead of looking into a black hole, I suddenly see a wonderfully cozy styled room.

2. The style

The garden huts from Wolfstyles have their own signature. They are made of scaffolding wood and are robust but crafted with an eye for detail. The electrical work is neatly finished, and all the furniture is beautifully sanded so that you don't have splinters and hassle, and it looks even nicer. What I like most is that they think about things I wouldn't have done myself. A little floor, for example. I wouldn't have needed it, but it makes it so cozy and so much more than just a roof. Because of that, it really is a safe haven and a real little room. They know it because they have built 400 of them.

3. Couture room

These are not prefab huts that you slide into your garden. Wolf and Thijs look at your garden, the place where it will stand, and your wishes. For some people, they build a complete kitchen in, while others don’t need a fireplace, for example. So I chose to fill our little spot usefully and definitely wanted a fireplace (somewhere in me lurks a pyromaniac). I had thought of placing benches on two sides to make it a kind of ship's cabin, but here too, Wolf and Thijs advised me to leave the right side open so that I can furnish it alternately. Now there is a nice round chair, and in a few months, I will hang a hanging chair in it, and next year we might even put a high bar with two stools in it.

4. You do other things

When you sit together in the living room, the television often gets turned on again. Here we talk. Or we play music on our JBL speaker (sorry neighbors) or we do a puzzle, and yesterday I was reading Pluk van de Petteflet.

5. Wolf and Thijs

I can sometimes dread having workers in my house. Because they don't always smell nice, don't speak the language, put greasy sausages in my fridge, or don't clean up their stuff. Thijs and Wolf are incredibly nice, civilized men. In Denham jeans with a nice shirt, that kind of work. It's nice every now and then, right? They are friendly, take care of their own snacks and drinks (though you can definitely make them happy with a latte at the beginning and a beer at the end of the workday), and clean everything up neatly after each workday.

6. In a breeze

With a renovation, you can dread the time it will take before it's finished. They build these garden rooms in three to four days, depending a bit on the weather and your wishes. That's really nothing. Every day when I came home, I could hardly believe my eyes, and I am so happy every time I step into my house.

7. Upgrade of your house

The value your house increases is not proportional to the price of the hut. At least, that seems to me. Although that doesn't really matter because I NEVER want to leave.
