7x you should never put this in your dishwasher
Despite the fact that I have a very luxurious dishwasher parked in my kitchen, I still regularly let the sink fill up with soapy water. Not because washing dishes is really a hobby of mine, but more because certain contents of my kitchen cabinets need to be treated with care. Just like that silky little thing from Victoria’s Secret, that expensive knife set also needs to be handled with golden hands. And not just those knives; these seven things are better off going through a warm soapy water first.
Your Le Creuset
But another enamel pan is a no-go in your dishwasher. Always give it a quick scrub with a brush, dry it off, and neatly put it back in the cupboard.
Chef's knives
Every time I accidentally toss my favorite Global carelessly into the dishwasher, I hear a little voice in the back of my mind. From my mother, of course. ‘Your chef's knife needs love and care to prevent bending and damage.’
Cast iron pan
Cast iron pans have a thin layer of oil that prevents them from rusting. That layer of oil will wear off over time due to the high temperature. Just give it a wash with soapy water.
Wooden cutting boards
Wood dries out in the dishwasher, causing cracks to form. This can lead to your cutting board breaking, but it can also have unhygienic consequences: juices from, for example, meat can seep into the cutting board and contaminate other food.
Iron colander
If your colander is made of enamel, it's better not to let it go through the dishwasher either.
Soft plastic
Storage boxes made of soft plastic are better off getting a wash with soapy water. Soft plastic can turn into a melted goo after a wash cycle.
Your grandmother's beautiful porcelain
Aside from the fact that those ancient cups and saucers are often made of thin porcelain, the paint also cannot withstand stubborn soap and hot water.
