8x the most frequently asked questions when you're single

A single status arouses the necessary curiosity among acquaintances, but certainly also among hairdressers, restroom attendants, and iPhone screen repairers. For some seasoned relationship veterans, it seems almost unimaginable to lead a life where the true one is missing. And that astonishment is not hidden under chairs or sofas. Almost as exhausting as ‘did it hurt when...’: the 8 most frequently asked questions you hear when you're single.

1. How can that be?

Should I start naming my most annoying character traits? I am medium/large chaotic, can hardly accept the answer ‘no’, and hate skiing. ‘Yeah, well, no, then I understand why you're still single.’

2. What are you attracted to?

A very exhausting tunnel vision question. As if I have a drawn version of my future boyfriend in my clutch. Preferably brown hair, no receding hairline, blue eyes, taller than 1.75 meters, older than 25 years, and an Oral-B smile from ear to ear. Joe.

3. But you must be very critical.

What is critical when it comes to someone you want to be with for years, if possible, and who will meet your family and friends? Little sense of empathy or not so ambitious? Then I’ll look a little further, yes.

4. And that person over there, or that one?

Well-meaning suggestions that make me very uncomfortable and unhappy.

5. Yes, where do you actually meet them these days?

These questions are often asked in chronological order. When the interview reaches question 5, a cautious pout appears on my face. As if you are cutting the pacifier in front of a toddler. Sadder than sad, this question. Never ask it again.

6. And Tinder?

I know that dating apps can lead to long-term relationships, even marriages, and that there are Tinder babies, but not for me.

7. Is it boring to be single for so long?

Is it boring to be in a relationship for so long?

8. Yes, but you are also way too preoccupied with it, aren't you?

It comes when you least expect it.
