Love & Sex

A rather arousing list

Bite one, bite two, bite three, I deftly spooned the seaweed salad from my beloved's plate. And I should have left that alone. from FavorFlav Our neighbors made a lust-inducing list. Right: food that makes you want to get it on. Here it comes.

By nature, you are of course a sexy beast that is always turned on. I get it. But yes, sometimes you’ve had a hard day at work, you’re tired, or you have a headache, I get that too. Eat one of these things to bring out your inner flirt.

Fenugreek

During a study, men were given 600 mg of fenugreek extract daily for a period of six weeks. Guess what? They reported feeling more sexually aroused and having more orgasms. Bring on that Indian chicken with fenugreek.

Celery

We don’t think it’s the sexiest vegetable, but it contains a lot of aldosterone, a male hormone that excites women. Celery with hummus is fine, but if you want to charm your date a bit more, you’d better make this braised celery with mustard sauce.

Saffron

Men experience better erections, women get more aroused and have an extra wet climax. Enough reason to eat risotto Milanese tonight.

Chili pepper

Chili pepper stimulates the production of endorphins (that substance that makes you feel happy), makes your heart literally beat faster, and makes you sweat. That’s how you feel when you’re excited, according to Meryl Rosofsky in The New York Times. Very nice: it doesn’t matter what dish you eat, as long as you serve a generous spoonful of chili sauce with it.

Seaweed

The green strands contain a lot of iron, calcium, and iodine and have an arousal-enhancing effect. Next time you order sushi, just get an extra bowl of seaweed salad then.

Pistachios

You do need to eat a lot of them – 100 grams of pistachios daily for three weeks, as in this study – but then as a man, you’ll have more blood flow to the penis and thus stronger erections. Do you think Nadia and Merijn had that in mind when they developed the recipe for this pistachio semolina cake with meringue?

Oysters

And what about oysters? They have a reputation as the ultimate aphrodisiac, but is that true? Yup. The high zinc content in the slimy snack leads to increased testosterone and sperm production. I’m off to find the next oyster happy hour!
