After four years, the cookie is really crumbled.

These were Dré and Monique.

The 24-year-old folk singer André Hazes: a treasure of a little rascal. Naughty yet sweet. Mischievous and headstrong, but with a small heart in the right place. We are fans. But he is now too busy with his work.

André hardly has time for his family, and that is the last straw: Dré and Monique Westenberg have officially split up. Their four-year relationship has run aground, and this while their little boy André is only 18 months old. Still, the singer does not see it as something definitive. He hopes it is a temporary break-up. ‘We are going to separate for a while, live apart, to keep the peace and remain kind to each other,’ says André. ‘We hope that, for example, we will get back together in six months.’ And, well, yes, they are still going on vacation together as a family. Tomorrow, if we are to believe Instagram.

Huh, what? Why is it over then? Dré: ‘I think too much has happened. We have experienced so much in a short time. I might also be a bit lost in this world. But I really enjoy my work life. And that just clashes.’

A brief look back at their turbulent life and their much-discussed relationship:

• Well, the fact that they got into a relationship was already a shock. André is 16 years younger than Monique, who recently celebrated her 40th birthday. Just putting it out there.
• On October 25, 2016, the moment arrived: Andreas Martinus Hazes was born, or: André the Third. Their ultimate moment of happiness.
• According to experts, Monique was the reason André had been estranged from his mother Rachel for years. But then again... At Monique's urging, mother and son reconciled last year around Christmas. Suddenly, they were eating turkey together again. André also said that it was thanks to his partner that things were good with his mother again. He still hasn't spoken to his sister Roxeanne.
• Before his relationship with Monique, he left Vinkeveen and moved into a small chalet at her parents' trailer park in Rotterdam. Now André would be living in a villa in Nieuwersluis, with his cousin.
• The reality series ‘André Hazes: I Get Everything Out of Life’ is still seen weekly on television, and everything seems to be going perfectly between the two. But it seems that Dré is really getting everything out of life and therefore has no time for his Mo. By the way, the breakup does come up in the episode of May 2, as SBS reports.
• Just after King's Day, two days ago, Dré still posted a photo of his Mo and little baby André dressed in orange. ‘The most beautiful people in the world,’ he writes with the picture. Now we don't understand it anymore. Is the break-up just a stunt? Is it a joke? Is it a way to get attention? We don't know. Are you or aren't you...?

It really seems to be over. Monique's reaction to all the commotion in the Hazes household is this: ‘Normally, you take a break from your work when you have that pressure. Only in André's case, it is impossible to take a break from his work, and he chooses to take a break from his family.’ We hope that now that André is single again, he at least calls his sister once. Just for some feel-good. We could really use that right now.
