Holy: Netflix has added these bizarrely good movies
Netflix is a blessing, but if you don't give yourself time for series, there's not much to look for. The selection of movies was, let's be honest, not exactly something to write home about. But yesterday we clicked on the favorite icon again and there was a whole battery of top films on display. Let me take you along.
1. E.T.
Watched it immediately, also fun with kids. Truly, a bit slow, but still visually stunning and sweet. And turn the volume up extra loud when Elliott flies through the air with E.T. in his bike basket to the music of John Williams.
2. Scarface
The masterful Al Pacino in all his glory. I really saw it thirty years ago, but I still remember the scenes with his sister Gina that made me want to be named Gina too.
3. Scent of a Woman
More Pacino. He won an Oscar for this masterpiece. A ‘must see’, if only to see all those lovely New York hotels again.
4. Coco
The sweetest Disney movie ever.
5. Ratatouille
More Disney, but those animations of Paris... So beautiful.
6. Mona Lisa Smile
Julia Roberts encourages women to get more out of life than just marriage.
7. The Revenant
You know, the western for which Leonardo DiCaprio made a spot in the trophy cabinet for that Oscar statue. In vain. But you want to see it, because it's masterful.
8. The Birdman
I saw it on the plane and was completely absorbed. A once-famous actor tries to make his comeback on Broadway while his personal life completely collapses.
9. Zwartboek
If only to hear Carice say: “Does it NEVER stop?”.
And I could go on like this for a while. GVR, The Godfather, Schindler’s List, O brother, where art thou?...
