Amayzines Great Heat Plan

A sweat mustache, wet armpits, shirts that stick where you don't want them, hot hair... Meine liebe Damen und Heren, it's going to get warm. Our weather men and women say there is a one percent chance that it will be forty degrees next week. One percent yes, forty degrees. As a good Dutch person, we forget that one percent and prepare ourselves for forty degrees. The bell rings every second with the delivery of even more airy stuff to keep the body cool, cooling devices are being set up to create artificial wind, and the ice machine rattles and bubbles non-stop.

The warnings are flying at you. You need to raise your sweat threshold (never knew I had one) and do everything to prevent overheating of the body. The first sign of overheating can be found in the toilet, sorry for the graphic description but I can't make it prettier, when the urine turns a bit too dark yellow. Therefore, we present to you: Amayzines Great Heat Plan.

1. Embrace the heat

Just let all that warmth and heat happen. If you work through the heatwave like a true Dutch person, grumbling, your heart rate goes up and guess what happens then: you get even hotter.

2. Don't drink cold water

But do drink. I see that experts recommend herbal tea, I'm already getting warm at the thought, but putting the water bottle in the freezer is not a great plan. Make sure you consume at least two liters of lukewarm water per day. And if you're not a big drinker, then consume it in small sips.

3. Be careful with sports

Go early in the morning or late in the evening, but avoid boot camp in the hottest part of the day (that's roughly between 12:00 and 17:00 hours).

4. Stay indoors

Close windows and doors, keep the curtains closed, turn off electrical appliances, and move as little as possible. That last one is from me, but I can imagine this works.

5. Dress cool

Airy stuff, as I already said, in light colors. One professor proclaims that you better wear as little as possible, but I don't know if that is welcomed in the average office garden.

6. Avoid everything you enjoy

Smoking, alcohol, coffee; take nothing. It dries you out and you overheat before you know it.

7. Turn on that air conditioning mañana

Our Daniëlle plans to lock herself in the car all day with the air conditioning on, and you better not do that. The air conditioning should definitely be set to at least 22 degrees to avoid fatal blows.

8. Eat fruit and raw vegetables

Fruit contains moisture but also salt, and your body needs that during heatwaves.

9. Makeup is a no-go

You only get hotter if you powder yourself with anti-shine or an oil, because that clogs the skin.

10. Bring out your inner braider

Braids are cool, braids keep you cool. Our editorial team has become one big braiding workshop. One to sweep the bangs off the sweaty forehead, the other to get the hair off the neck. Braids are your salvation.

11. Buy cool gadgets

Ordering now is for the heatwave at home. I'm going for an ice towel, the terrace air conditioning (it exists guys, it exists), a chill duvet that makes you cold, and that pink kiddie pool I'm putting in the editorial garden.

Have a great heat and especially stay nice and cool.
