At these airports, delays are not a big deal at all
I never quite understand people who saunter to the airport an hour and a half before their flight takes off. Walking around the airport is the most fun, right? Enjoying a nice coffee somewhere, doing a little vacation shopping, and then taking a nice photo: it’s all part of my travel ritual. Except when I’ve, uh, forgotten my passport, but that’s another story.
I must say that one airport is not the same as another. Schiphol Airport ranks quite high on the list of the best airports in the world, at a remarkable 12th place. Which airports have recently been awarded the ‘Oscars’ of the aviation industry? Behold. And sorry, if you immediately feel like going on a trip.
According to travelers, these are the best 10 airports in the world:
10. Frankfurt Airport (Germany)
Frankfurt is one of the larger airports in Europe. You can feast your eyes on the restaurants, and shopping is top-notch as well. A small downside: the sometimes long lines at customs.
9. Zurich Airport (Switzerland)
The biggest plus? From Zurich airport, you can be in the city center in no time. Additionally, passengers with a long layover praise the bike and skateboard rentals at the airport.
8. London Heathrow Airport (United Kingdom)
I totally get it. I’ve spent hours there. If only for all the shops selling British sweets. I mean: come on.
7. Chubu Centrair Nagoya (Japan)
Quite special, as it is built on an artificial island. They have a huge rooftop terrace where you can see both planes landing and ships entering the harbor. The Japanese bathhouse – the so-called onsen – is also praised.
6. Munich Airport (Germany)
You can play mini-golf, surf in a wave pool (?!), and the wifi is free and fast. And perhaps the most brilliant thing ever: there are three ‘napcabs’ (or sleep cabins) at the airport where you can nap for ten bucks an hour. With a bed, desk, and a screen where you can play music.
5. Hamad International Airport (Doha, Qatar)
Cost for the two terminals? 16 billion dollars. According to travelers, this airport is the most architecturally striking in the world, and also the most luxurious.
4. Hong Kong International Airport
This airport is also built on an artificially created island off the coast of Hong Kong. Be sure to check out the nine-hole golf course at terminal 2.
3. Tokyo International Airport (Haneda)
Despite being the fourth busiest airport in the world, you find the airport just as you would expect from the Japanese: clean, efficient, and orderly. With nice shops.
2. Incheon International Airport (Seoul, South Korea)
Just for that reason, I would want to go there. In South Korea, they really know how to dine well at the airport. The airport also has a museum dedicated to Korean culture.
1. Singapore Changi Airport (Singapore)
Voted the absolute best airport in the world for the sixth consecutive time. I mean it. You almost want to have a delay here. To shop. To eat. To swim laps in the rooftop pool or to go to the cinema that is open 24/7. Ooooh guys, is it already time for vacation?
