The series you want to binge-watch right now

Now, the weather isn't exactly inviting to curl up on the couch with a blanket and binge-watch, but once I dive deep into a new series, I couldn't care less if the sparrows fall from the roof: I.MUST.CONTINUE.WATCHING.

So while everyone in Amsterdam is sitting on the terrace with GT's or rosé, I'm lying (after Otis has gone to bed) on the couch with clenched buttocks for what's to come. Because the Netflix series ‘Dark’ certainly gives me the necessary clammy hands. It immediately reminded me of that other Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’, but even more complicated and ingenious. This German-speaking series takes place in the town of Winden, where two boys go missing near a nuclear power plant. Soon you find out that the series doesn't just take place in ‘2019’, but also in the past: 33 years ago to be exact. And I really can't reveal more, but take my word for it that this is a big fat recommendation. I can't promise you won't stay awake all night to binge-watch this series in one go.

If you're not really warming up to horror/sci-fi, then I have another must-see that will completely grip you from minute one: ‘Big Little Lies’. This HBO series is set in the picturesque town of Monterey: a chic artists' village on the coast of California. Episode one starts immediately with a murder, but both the victim and the perpetrator remain unknown. Then you go a few months back in time to the first school day of the new year and meet the new resident of Monterey and her son. The relationships between the children and their mothers are delightful, just like the beautiful outfits they wear. With a sublime role for Nicole Kidman, who is mentally and physically destroyed by her husband (played by Alexander Skarsgård). It's definitely not a series you can only watch with girlfriends, because Jon is just as addicted as I am.

And if you've devoured these two within a week (which is quite realistic), then I have a third tip for you: ‘Casa de Papel’, on Netflix. It's a Spanish series about the most ingenious bank heist of all time. Sometimes you need to get used to the Spanish and temperamental acting, but the plot is so surprising that you want to keep watching episode after episode.

So, three totally different series that are a must to add to your watch list for different reasons. Oh yes, all three have season two on the way. That saves you from such a black hole after those season finales...
