Bottle ball

Ballet. It was my love. My life. And I threw myself into it so much that despite the fact that I only started at the age of fourteen, I was still accepted at the academy in Antwerp. My mother, never one to hesitate to put me back in the mud with both feet, says: ‘Yes, such a school must of course be full,’ but I was PROUD, really beyond.

Because I have been dancing less than I have been not dancing and because ballet requires an enormous level of dedication, I have let it go. Although I would love nothing more than to move at the barre in a beautiful black outfit with spaghetti straps, long leg warmers, and a sheer skirt, it doesn't fit into my schedule. But the love remains. So my pointe shoes hang in a nice spot in the hallway, my daughter is named Igoné (after Igone de Jongh, first soloist of the National Ballet), and my beautiful black outfit with skirt is still in a drawer. On Sunday mornings, I love to wear my ‘ballet pants,’ with a wide waist that you fold over your elastic waistband so that your torso looks longer. In the meantime, I wear a sweater over it, but that feeling of folding that woolen pants around your waistband and wearing the leg warmers over your shoes; wonderful. And oh yes, I have the Miu Miu ballerinas in winter and summer variants. To complete the experience, I searched for the perfect perfume to go with it.

It immediately takes me back to my ballet suitcase where my outfits always lay beautifully folded, my pink shoes on top, and a bottle of perfume to finish it off. Oh, if only I had had this perfume back then. But even though I am no longer in the studio, the love for ballet remains. And I carry that with me every day now, with this perfume.
