Decorating your home à la Parc Broekhuizen

Moving is so drastic (in the top three of a person's life), otherwise I would do it twice a year. I love setting up something new, painting it, turning everything upside down. And in 2019 I get to do it again, hallelujah. This time I want to copy-paste Parc Broekhuizen, just pick it up and drape it over my new house. That's tricky, which is why I'm extracting the secrets from designer Judith van Mourik and sharing them with you right away.

By the way, Judith won awards for her interior design for Broekhuizen and she's now sinking her teeth into an icon again. The 17th-century Orphanage in Gouda is becoming a luxury boutique hotel. So put that on your ‘to do’ list for the end of 2019, because you want to sleep, eat, and probably live here forever. For those who want her signature in their home, here are her tips.

  1. Experiment with old and new and also think about new materials like perspex or glass.
  2. Put some love into your home. A stylist or architect can help you with advice on color, layout, and materials, but you really have to make a house your own.
  3. Place a huge plant in your small or large living room, it works wonders.
  4. Forget the trends; the trend is that there is no trend. Although it can be a bit softer and warmer, think: purple, burgundy with silver, and something old.
  5. Group more, both old and new, to make your home less cluttered. Place a candle and old vases next to a designer lamp and orchid. This way you draw attention.

Oh, and if you also purchase Wallpaper, MILK, House & Interior and surf to the sites of Dimore Studio and Joseph Dirand, then we might, just might, get close to the ridiculously beautiful restaurants and hotels that Judith creates. But just maybe. I'm going to book at Broekhuizen plus Elzenduin and then eat at the three-star De Leest to soak in the interior.
