Diary of a model
Lily spends her days as a model, rushing from shoot to show and on to yet another casting. On Amayzine, she tells you all about what her life is really like. Under a different name, of course, but that means she can share all the juicy details. This week: this is how kissing a colleague really goes.
‘Hey, I’m Lily.’ ’Hi, I’m James, how are you?’ When I walked onto the set this morning, to my surprise, there was already a colleague in the makeup chair. Apparently, I’m shooting with James today. I have to admit that the days are often a lot more relaxed with male colleagues. It seems like the team is a bit less stressed and there’s more joking around. I’m not sure why that is, but I suspect it has to do with the fact that male models often don’t care at all about what they have to do, where they are, or who they’re working with. While my hair and makeup are being done, I get to know the new team and my colleague a bit better. Meanwhile, downstairs, the lights and camera are being set up and adjusted so we can start quickly. There are quite a few photos planned.
James and I take our places in front of the camera, and the photographer comes over to explain the shoot plan: James is playing my boyfriend today, and to make a good start, we’re kicking off with the fake-kissing scene. The photographer laughs awkwardly, and I look with some surprise at my equally surprised fellow model. Apparently, he didn’t know anything about it either. After some failed photos where either he or I burst out laughing from nerves, we manage to get a few good photos and scenes a little later (yes, it’s also being filmed). Look, there’s nothing wrong with fake-kissing a handsome guy, but I unexpectedly have to step completely out of my comfort zone. That’s something I’ve learned by now, and luckily James has too, which makes the result fabulous. James has been my real boyfriend for four years now, and in a week, we’re getting married. Okay, this isn’t true, but it would be a nice fairy tale, right? In reality, we are Insta friends and we occasionally react to each other’s Stories. Whát a love story.
Unfortunately, sometimes it goes a bit less smoothly.A while ago, for example, I did a shoot together with two other girls. The idea was that we would walk through the streets laughing as three best friends. One of the girls came in that morning still wearing her headphones, sat down at the table, and shouted without looking up that she needed ’coffee and breakfast‘. Since there are no waiters on set (surprise surprise), she had to go get it herself. Apparently, that was a terribly difficult start to the day for her. I might have seen her smile twice throughout the whole day, so you can imagine how hard it was to radiate that we were besties for life. The photographer was pulling his hair out, and the poor stylist was jumping up and down trying to conjure a smile on the diva’s face. No idea how, but eventually, the team was (kind of) satisfied with the photos, and everyone could exhaustedly head to their own hotel room. The diva still asked to go eat together in the city, but I suddenly had an urgent Skype call with my parents.
Still, I have also made some really good friends on photo shoots. Bonding over model problems and green smoothie recipes sometimes pays off. And before you know it, you’re later together every morning on the treadmill at the gym and pulling on resistance bands.
xx Kisses from Lily
