Diary of a model
Lily spends her days as a model, rushing from shoot to show and then to another casting. On Amayzine, she tells you all about what her life is really like. Under a different name, of course, but that means she can share all the juicy details. This week: checking if she can eat tonight.
Today my step counter is at 21,456. Super handy that app, I can keep track of whether I've walked enough to eat tonight. Especially fun because I always do a weekly competition with friends to see who has taken the most steps, and I almost always win.
21,456 steps in a day is actually ridiculously high, but for me, it's very normal. Gotta keep the legs skinny for all the tiny outfits I get to wear.
I did castings today in London, five castings to be exact. London is very big and my castings are spread all over the city, so the step counter goes crazy. I started in the east, then went to the west, back to the east, then to the north, and I ended up in the south. But hey, I can't complain.
Once I get home, I get a message from a friend asking if I want to go to the gym. My head thinks: yes, good plan, I haven't been in a while. But I can't get my butt off the couch. It feels like ages since I was last in the gym (in the Netherlands, I'm there every day), but secretly I've only been in London for three days and I've almost run a marathon every day. My legs and head are having a little war again, and tonight I'll let my legs win.
After a few days of heavy stepping, I get quite a few blisters on my feet. Have you ever really looked at a model's feet? Tip: Don’t! Not only are the skins hanging off in all directions, but the delicate little feet are also squeezed into heels two sizes too small, resulting in blue misshapen toes. The right size is sometimes just not available, but I do wonder how many girls who are 1.80 meters tall wear size 37 shoes. But hey, I can't complain.
On the days I work, the number of steps on my phone is alarmingly low. Giving my legs a little rest? Nope, I'm standing in heels all day posing to shoot 50 different outfits for an online webshop. It's fun to see yourself online later, but by the end of the day, my feet are almost twice their size because all the blood has flowed down. But hey, I can't complain.
After such a day, it's smart to lie on your bed with your legs up against the wall (Lily's tip to the fellow models out there). It's definitely smart, but you often don't get that chance. After the shoot, I immediately jump in a taxi to catch the last flight to Amsterdam, and putting my legs up against a wall at the airport is also quite uncomfortable. So that same evening, I board the plane with ‘fat’ calves and remind myself again to buy compression socks. It's not charming, but the change in pressure is not good for circulation, and I don't want my feet to explode. But hey, I can't complain.
Do you also want thick, tired, blistered, and blue feet? Then modeling is something for you. I do have one last tip for you: take a few photos of your nice feet in advance, because they won't stay that way for long.
xx Kisses from Lily
