December is eagerly awaiting us with a range of cool parties. As excited as you can get from a great invitation, you can be just as thrown off by the accompanying dress code. Just the word ‘dress code’ is often enough to cause spots on the neck. A ‘black tie’, ‘cocktail’, or ’tenue de ville’ might still be manageable, but when dress codes like ‘let's sparkle’, ’touch of gold’, or ‘velvet vibes’ are thrown around, I can imagine that after a round of Google, you still have no idea what exactly is meant. How do you rock dress codes that even Google has never heard of? I'll tell you:
1. Always choose one eye-catcher
A gold-colored skirt à la May, a sequin top, glitter pants, or a velvet suit combined with your best basics always works well. You focus on one item, ensuring that compliments will definitely come your way.
2. Never go all the way
Nothing is worse than being overdressed. Wanting to wear too much at once never turns out as well as intended. And let's be honest: trying too hard never looks very cool. Less is definitely more in this case.
3. Doubter
Are you seriously doubting? Then do the Rachel Zane à la Meghan Markle in Suits. The living proof that being too revealing is always a no-go and killer heels and a good designer bag are always the solution.
4. Love for layers
If you see upon entering that you've gone a bit too high with your glitter dress, keep your biker jacket on or combine your look with a nice basic knit. You'll see: an extra layer can suddenly become your savior in fashion distress and the perfect downtuner.
5. Shine bright like a diamond
Big, glittering, and more eye-catching than ever. If there's a time during December when you can show off, it's with jewelry. Just keep the rest of your outfit calm, because otherwise, I unfortunately have to send you back to number 2.
6. Been to the hairdresser?
Is your outfit a bit safe? Treat yourself to a visit to the hairdresser. Add a nice accessory, step out of your comfort zone, and you'll be one of the best-looking at the party.
