Finally normal mannequins

Walking through the city, it stands out that many shop windows are filled with mannequins in a normal size. And also on the catwalk, we increasingly see models with a blanket over their hips. The British clothing brand Misguided takes it a step further. The fashion label has unveiled a new series of mannequins for their stores that represent women of different nationalities, complete with stretch marks, freckles, and vitiligo. In this way, the brand wants to show that beauty does not have just one face, that everyone is beautiful, and it doesn't matter how you look.

It took a while, but finally there is a label that no longer wants to participate in today's hype. No more filters, retouching, or discrimination. The mannequins in question represent a broader layer of the international female population, from white to black and from thin to thick. But that's not all. From today, you will also find dark mannequins with vitiligo, a skin condition that is becoming more common, characterized by milk-white pigment spots on the skin. But also mannequins with freckles and stretch marks, and even mannequins with an Indian red dot on their forehead, for protection against the evil eye.

The reactions from the general public on the worldwide web speak volumes. For example, we read on Twitter: “Mannequins that look like women! You are fantastic, sweetheart!” and: “The fact that Misguided makes their mannequins realistic makes me love the brand even more.” Now we just have to wait and see when we will encounter the first freckles in Kalverstraat....
