Is watching porn together good for your relationship?

We secretly knew it from our own experience, but it was last year that our southern neighbors officially confirmed it: watching porn with your partner is good for your relationship. Student Helena Knaeps researched it for her thesis at the Free University in Brussels. She interviewed 217 women and men between 18 and 30 years old about watching erotic videos. It turned out that almost all men have at some point watch porn compared to 70 percent of women. It was also investigated whether they ever watched a steamy video together with their partner. Respectively, 40 and 27 percent of men and women indicated they would be up for that. Finally, it turned out that the duo-watching porn group was indeed happier in their relationship than couples who did not.

But why?

But why is it so great for your relationship? “It promotes communication about sex and that's always good for your relationship,” says doctor in psychology, Bert van Puyenbroeck. “Whether it's about porn, sexual desires, or fantasies, it can promote sexual behavior and be an encouragement to experience sexuality together.”

That's just how it is. Talking about sex can be a bit tricky, and watching a visual example makes it very easy to casually point out something you'd like to try between the sheets... or outside of them. Moreover, you can learn the art and copy all kinds of sex moves which improves your bedroom repertoire.
