Jay-Z on the emotional coming out of his mother
For every child, it must be terrible to see your mother or father struggle for years with their sexuality. It happened to Jay-Z and for the first time, he opens up about the emotional moment when he heard that his mother came out of the closet.
Jay had known for much longer that his mother Gloria was a lesbian, but it was only eight months ago that she first told him she was in love with a woman. “I didn’t even know what those were, tears of joy, until that moment, but I burst into tears,” the rapper tells in an interview with David Letterman. “My mother could never be who she was. She thought she had to hide her feelings and protect her children. She didn’t want her children to be ashamed of her.”
