Just about breastfeeding...
This week I can't open my Instagram or I see a photo passing by of a proud mother breastfeeding. During International Breastfeeding Week, efforts are made to break the taboos surrounding this subject and to open the conversation between mothers and caregivers. During my pregnancy, I immediately decided that I wanted to breastfeed: the amount of nutrients and antibodies in breast milk is very important for the newborn, and besides, I find it such a beautiful invention of nature that I wanted nothing more than to experience this and give it to my little one.
But unfortunately, breastfeeding is not for everyone; for some women, it doesn't start or hardly starts, or due to the immense pain and complications, they are forced to stop. I benefited greatly from the breastfeeding course organized by my midwifery practice: I received a clear explanation of the breastfeeding process, handy tips, and most importantly, I was informed about what to expect. The potential infections, wounds, and discomforts didn't sound particularly pleasant, but at least I knew what the possible scenarios could be. And if we can make those subjects a bit more discussable, I am sure that there are more young mothers who will embark on the breastfeeding adventure (longer).
No matter how you feel as a new mother, the most important thing for me is that we don't judge too quickly: something that mothers tend to do among themselves. By making breastfeeding more discussable, we can hopefully support and help each other better, but ultimately it remains everyone's own choice and that must be respected.
Especially ‘the outside world’ still looks a bit down on feeding in public. There are a lot of celebs, including Doutzen Kroes and Chrissy Teigen, who want to break the taboo by posting photos on social media where they are breastfeeding, showing that breastfeeding is something completely normal and natural. Now, I personally didn't find it very pleasant to sit in a restaurant with such a bare breast, so I was looking for a nice nursing cover, so I could feed Otis in a calm and safe way everywhere. But yes, what doesn't exist, you have to develop yourself, right? So I started designing with my best friend. It's still a wait for the final result, but soon you can expect a huge scoop on Amayzine!
