Ask for mandatory consent before you have sex
Sweden has it, Spain too, and now expert Netherlands is asking for a sex law. This means that for a one night stand, but also if you've been together for a long time, you must give and receive a clear ‘yes’ before having sex.
My mother strongly impressed upon me that I should especially not do anything I didn't want to, even if my friends were already getting into the dirty business. But I didn't get that during sexual education at school. You would think this is the perfect hour to convey this wisdom to the generation that is about to have sex.
Currently, the morality law works as follows: there is coercion if someone indicates they do not want to engage in sexual acts. This will be exactly the opposite when the sex law comes into effect. There is no coercion if you both say you want it. If you do not do this, you are committing an offense and can be convicted. It remains difficult to show that you were not okay with sex or that the other person was. But growing up and having a sex law might make it all less taken for granted and wanting it from both sides even more normal than we already hope. What do you think?
