Netflixmassss
I don't know about you, but I'm almost looking forward more to the days between the holidays than to the holidays themselves. Curtains closed, candles lit, a bag of chips (because I have to watch my weight in January) and binge-watching it is. But what? We all know that La Casa de Papel, Narcos, and The Handmaid’s Tale are fantastic. What’s next?
Therefore, especially for you, my favorite series that you probably haven't seen yet.
The Sinner 2 (Netflix)
The first season of The Sinner was very good, the second season is even better. Since each season is a complete story, you can just start with season two. A boy poisons his caretakers during a trip to The Niagara Falls. It soon turns out he comes from a rather cuckoo living commune. The question is: did Julian know what he was doing and what is his mother's role in this? This series is dark and intense, exactly what you need after that dinner with your mother-in-law. P.S.: Season one is also recommended, but just start with two.
Love (Netflix)
Great series about a relationship that just won't get off the ground, from executive producer Judd Apatow, the man behind the equally brilliant Girls. Mickey and Gus both live in LA. Mickey has a drinking problem and Gus has a rather large nose and a career in the film biz that just won't take off. They have something together, but what exactly? Expect embarrassing situations, wild dialogues, relatable insecurities, and if that’s not enough: I really enjoyed Mickey's über-cool fashion style. Three seasons of fun, so cancel all your parties.
GLOW (Netflix)
We're still in LA, but then in the eighties. Actress Ruth has quite a hard time landing good roles. That's why she decides to audition for a wrestling show: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Her arch-rival Debbie also participates, leading to a lot of hysterical drama. The series starts off a bit slow, but hang in there, by episode three you'll be hooked and by season two you'll be cheering on the couch.
The Get Down (Netflix)
What do you get if you let Baz Luhrmann of Moulin Rouge make a series? The most expensive series ever. The Get Down is a fairy-tale story costing 120 million about a group of boys in The Bronx, in the late seventies. They have one goal: to escape poverty through music. In a time when disco is dominant, they pioneer in hip-hop and that produces great music. Add to that a romance with the pastor's daughter and you'll understand why I enjoyed this immensely.
Liar Liar (Videoland)
Andrew is handsome, a surgeon, courteous, and funny. Laura goes on a date with him and wakes up the next morning feeling a bit typical. She is convinced that he did something to her drink and raped her. She has no proof and no one believes her. Why would an ideal man like Andrew do something like that? Laura must not be completely right in the head. Or is she right? This series consists of 6 parts and there are whispers about a second season.
The Christmas Office Party (Netflix)
Okay, it's not a series, but it's a Christmas-related movie, so I’ll mention it anyway. Now, I like everything with Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses!) and she hasn't disappointed me this time either. This movie is quite obligatory: Americans using too much alcohol and drugs and doing weird things because of it. But it's a great movie to munch on your leftovers from the Christmas dinner on the couch.
