The name already gives it away a bit, because, as is known from psychology: ‘tabula rasa’ means something like a ‘clean slate’. That we as humans all start with a ‘clean sheet’ and that who we are and what we do and what we know is entirely up to ourselves. We are all tabula rasa when we come into the world – at that moment everyone is equal. The rest we determine ourselves and what we know we learn from experiences in our lives. In Belgium, the series is already a tremendous hit and scores more than 1.2 million viewers per episode. What can you expect? The young woman in the series, played by actress Veerle Baetens, has memory loss because she was involved in a car accident. She finds it very difficult to remember new information and is therefore in a psychiatric institution. Then the police suddenly come to visit her. She remembers very little of her past, and while she is the only one who can help solve a mysterious disappearance case. She was last seen with Thomas, who is now missing. But… She no longer knows who he is. Phew. According to various sources, the series is not for the faint-hearted, as it is referred to in foreign media as a ‘truly terrifying thriller’.
