On this day of the week, we are the happiest
I don't know about you, but there's no day as beautiful as Friday. I think.
You still have the weekend ahead of you, you can have drinks, stop working earlier or work with wine on the desk, there are social appointments scheduled with friends, and the alarm clock won't go off the next day. Every week again a sincere celebration therefore. It starts in the morning, at the coffee, you know, that anticipation. As if the weekend has already secretly begun. But working is also fun and everyone is extra cheerful at the coffee machine. So work, and have that prospect of seeing your friends and family, that idea. Everyone is happier, everyone is being silly, jovial, and a bit ’I-don't-care‘. A bit of ’we-drink-wine-at-our-desk‘, that feeling.
Yet research shows that I am completely wrong. Because Sunday is supposed to be the happiest day of the week. Both in the morning and in the afternoon we are happier on this day of the week than we are the rest of the week. How come? We do many chores on this day that we don't get to during the rest of the week. That brings peace and creates a happy mood. This is evident from an analysis of about 2.4 million blogs and tweets and other nonsense, so there is really a kernel of truth in it, if you don't believe me. There are indeed people who actually do chores on Sunday. A lot of chores. Washing. Tidying up the living room. Organizing your wardrobe. Or something. Just saying.
According to researchers, we find Wednesday the least enjoyable day. The monotony of the week, those busy workdays still to come, two heavy days behind us, the weekend light-years away... That doesn't help either. On Wednesdays, we are often a bit tired, which leads to more accidents on the road. A perfect day to stay home, just in case you ever doubt. And if you do feel like working or going out with friends: definitely do that on Tuesday. The chance of a little sex is actually the smallest on this day. So you won't miss much at home between the sheets if you happen to work late. Now you know that too.
