Pasta makes you thin

Are you, like me, incredibly addicted to pasta, but do you regularly cut out the delicious doughy stuff because you think it makes you fat? Then I have great news for you. There is finally evidence that people who eat pasta regularly are not heavier than those who never poke at a plate of spaghetti. On the contrary, a new Canadian study proves that you even lose weight if you regularly indulge in a plate.

When we hit the brakes, we quickly cut out that delicious slice of sourdough bread, those perfectly baked potatoes, and that silky lasagna bolognese. A shame, because new research recently published in BMJ Open shows that eating a little pasta actually helps you shed those Easter pounds. This was concluded by doctors from St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto based on data they collected from 2,488 participants in the study. The participants ate about three servings of pasta per week instead of other carbohydrates like white bread or fried potatoes. Pasta has a low glycemic index (GI), which causes our blood sugar levels to rise more slowly than other refined carbohydrates like bread and potatoes. The researchers ultimately discovered that those who had eaten pasta had lost a little weight. They believe this is due to the low GI. “Our study shows that eating pasta does not contribute to weight gain or an increase in body fat,” says lead researcher Dr. John Sievenpiper. “Our analysis even showed a small weight loss. Contrary to what is often assumed, pasta can indeed be part of a healthy diet.”

It should be clear that this does not mean you can scoop an extra spoonful of that creamy carbonara and you should also take it easy with that block of parmesan, but completely cutting pasta out of your diet is not necessary. With a splash of olive oil, fresh grilled vegetables, and a thin layer of pecorino, you have a perfectly healthy meal. So girlfriend, put that pot of water on, because tonight we are having pasta. And here’s what you need:

Pasta with cherry tomatoes and anchovies

4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

3 cloves of garlic, sliced

1 red onion

1 dried red chili pepper

6 anchovy fillets in oil

200 grams of spaghetti

juice of half a lemon

2 tablespoons of flat-leaf parsley

Parmesan cheese

salt and pepper

1. Heat a large pan over medium heat with some olive oil. Slice the onion into half rings and sauté them for twenty minutes until soft.

2. Cut the cherry tomatoes in half and finely chop the red chili pepper.

3. After twenty minutes, add them to the onion in the pan and season with salt and pepper. Also add the finely chopped garlic.

4. Roast the cherry tomatoes in the oven for about 20 minutes until they have shrunk and are lightly caramelized.

5. Drain the anchovies, cut them into pieces, and add them to the tomato mixture. Let the anchovies ’melt’.

6. Cook the pasta al dente.

7. Drain the pasta and toss it with the sauce.

8. Divide the pasta over two deep plates. Sprinkle the parsley over the pasta, drizzle with lemon juice, and sprinkle with parmesan.

Summary: Pasta makes you slim.
