Project million dollar closet for a bargain
Sighing, I stumbled over empty shoeboxes. Clothes that should have been washed three times by now. Full moving boxes. So you live in your new house for four months and still haven't got your shit together.
At least the ground floor is in order, but everyone knows you work from the bottom up, right? And upstairs was quite a project on its own. The plan was to transform the ‘junk room’ into a walk-in closet. Was the plan. Sigh. No time, no motivation, no idea where to start, and did I mention I had no time? And now suddenly, there it is. My gem, and done in just an afternoon. Want to turn a mini-room in your house into a walk-in closet without spending a fortune? This is how you do it.
Step 1: a bold color on the wall
White is boring. Go for a powerful mustard yellow, millennial pink, or olive green. Or a funky wallpaper. A tip I also got from interior stylist Georgia de Vlieger: paint your ceiling too. This way, you really create a kind of ‘box’ that you step into when you enter the room.
Step 2: get rid of all those ugly clothes hangers
Just think about it. We have them in our hands at least a few times every day, but we hardly pay any attention to them. Those wooden ones, brrr. Or even worse: those plastic ones. Your dress looks a hundred times better when it hangs on a nice hook. Really. I personally bought these golden hangers from YourHanger and I threw out all the other hangers in my house.
Step 3: the clothing rack
You can make it as expensive as you want. I have this four white racks (at 25 euros each) from Xenos set up against each other, and with those golden hangers, it suddenly looks very chic.
Step 4: the mirror
Simple. Look no further, you grab this a mirror from Ikea and spray it black just like Lil with a spray can. Love it.
Step 4: the finishing touch
Small wooden shelves with cacti on them, frames, small golden turtle hangers to hang your prettiest bags on, your best heels displayed, and lo and behold, there it is: your own dream closet. The beauty is: you invest time in something and suddenly save time. Because now I know every morning within a minute what I'm going to wear. HOORAY!
P.S.: And Ria, a big shout-out to you. You really helped me incredibly well, for which I am eternally grateful.
