Soho House Amsterdam is open
The coolest club has finally landed in Amsterdam after London (where the original house is located at 40, Greek Street), Barcelona, Malibu, New York, Miami, Berlin, Chicago, Istanbul, Hollywood (which took some effort, protest, hassle, but it has happened) and so on. Last week the doors opened cautiously, but this coming Friday they will celebrate with the happy few founding members, because becoming a member is not for everyone.
How do you become a member?
Well, you get balloted. The best way is, of course, if you are nominated by someone who is already a member. Or, as in the case in Amsterdam, a group of people was asked to approach those they consider worthy of Soho House.
Soho House was founded as a selective club for creatives. Writers, actors, and people working in fashion find a place here to meet each other. Because they want to keep the level high, there is a ballot process to see if you fit in. The story goes that Kim and Kanye were refused.
How much does it cost?
About 1600 euros per year. But then you can come as often as you want and use the luxury gym. And of course, you can go to other Soho Houses when you are abroad. Something that other people are not even allowed to enter.
Where is it located?
In the Amsterdam Spuistraat. Of course, this Soho House also has a rooftop bar and pool, 76 hotel rooms, a gym, and their famous Cecconi’s restaurant.
How do you get your dose of Soho?
Well, by knowing people who are members, because they can bring a guest. That’s how Liesbeth and I ended up on the rooftop in NY during a search for a nice terrace with wifi and wine. You know, the one where Samantha was ruthlessly unmasked. Well, that almost happened to us too when we asked for the wifi code. Asking for the password means, of course: no regulars. In other words: get lost. Luckily, we could screen with the name of the person who invited us and we could breathe easy again.
What you can also do...
Is buy something nice for yourself on the website of Soho House. They sell the most beautiful bathrobes and Backgammon sets for by the pool. Preferably their pool, of course, but it looks nice in your backyard too.
