Tarot card reading

Definitely a good idea

Last week my dearest sales buddy Daan turned 45 and she celebrated it with a dinner so insanely styled that you could have filled ten Pinterest boards with it. Moscow mules and gin tonics were served from a bar in the backyard, a wonderful woman cooked whistling the most delicious four-course dinner ever, and around eleven o'clock the roller blind in the garden house suddenly went up and there sat a woman with whom you could have your tarot cards read.

When my taxi arrived, I hadn't had my turn yet (it was packed, you understand), and so Daan shoved me in together with our mutual friend M. I am quite sober and think that a somewhat intelligent person (which I conveniently count myself as) shouldn't place too much value on dowsing rods and palm readers. But I was curious nonetheless, and I must say: it was an almost therapeutic session and here's why.

1. Reflective

This lady had everything that jingled and sparkled on. Charms hung from her headscarf, around her wrists, and undoubtedly there was also all sorts dangling from her skirt, but I couldn't see that because there was a table in between. And yet I found myself in a different mood. It was dark, it was quiet, I heard my breath and let my fingers search the cards.

2. The cards

The 78 cards reveal history. Just for the terms that are at risk of disappearing. Cups, a lemniscate, pentacle; all magical symbols that we might just forget. Did you know that the French writer Rabelais already wrote about tarot (tarau) in his Gargantua and Pantagruel? In short, it is something that has occupied us for centuries and is used for divination.

3. The mirror

M first drew her cards and exactly the conversation we had together on the way in the car translated into the cards. I also recognized myself and my current life in what the cards told. Nothing is predicted, you draw the cards and the tarot reader explains what the card stands for. It is up to you to fit it into your situation. I will probably explain the same card very differently than you would.

4. Therapeutic

That's what I found it to be. I took a moment to reflect on my life and interpret it based on the cards I had drawn. And of course, it is just exciting and funny and the best idea for a girls' night out.

By the way, have you already completed the big friends checklist?

When are we going again?
