The 1000 richest people on earth

Number 4 makes you so happy

Yesterday, The Sunday Times presented their annual Rich List (one of my favorite lists that was first presented in 1989), which features the 100 richest people living in England. And it made me happy for this reason.

Bye bye old money

When the list first came to light, only 43% of them had earned their own money. The rest were rich by birth. Nothing to be proud of, in short. This year, almost all of the 1000 richest people in England are entrepreneurs. The list itself only includes entrepreneurs who have earned their own money.

Women!

The Rich List features 141 women. When they started the list, there were only 9.

You could have been a loser

The number 1 on the list, Jim Ratcliffe, touches a messy 21 billion pounds. He spent his youth in impoverished working-class homes, was fired from his first job after just three days, and only started his company (chemical giant Ineos) at the age of 40. If you're not having a good time at work: no worries. What isn't can easily come. By the way, he has become 15 billion richer in the past year. Can someone calculate how much that is per day?

The most beautiful stories

That's the story of John Pidgley, for example, who was raised by a single mother and was later adopted. He lived for years in an abandoned train station. That is no longer necessary with a self-built fortune of 310 million pounds.

Another story is that of Penny Streeter, who started her recruitment company while living in a homeless shelter.

Do you drink gin and tonic?

With Fever-Tree by chance? Then you have contributed to this list, because Angus Thirlwell and his wife do everything in the food sector, including marketing Fever-Tree.

James Bond is here

Daniel Craig is the fourth James Bond to be on this list, but the richest.

By the way

Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken is the highest-ranked woman on the list. She lives in England, hence.

No Monday morning emails to check and meetings to chair? Here is the rest of the list.
