The 5 golden rules on Insta

Besides the question ‘where are your jeans from?’, the DM is also filled with: ‘which filter do you use?’ The struggle is real: the perfect Insta feed. Because how do we get it perfect but still make it ‘you’? Here are my 5 golden tips on how to achieve this.

1. Stay true to yourself

People want to see you, that’s why they follow you. Who are you? Don’t be a copy. Don’t get me wrong because I draw a lot of inspiration from Instagram myself, but try to give it your own touch. I find it very important that when people open my Instagram, they see the real Lizzy. This is often liked but sometimes not, but hell yeah, that’s me.

2. Mix it

Every day the same selfie might get a bit boooring. Try to mix it up: a photo with your friends, then a photo of your breakfast, and then maybe a silly selfie in between. This way, you create a lively image of your feed. I personally use the app UNUM, this is my secret weapon so I can see if the photo I took fits nicely in my feed. A must.

3. A good photographer

This is a very important part because yes, no photographer, no photo. Besides that the person in question must be good at photography, they also need to be patient and kind, and have insight and time. HAHA. My boyfriend would love to give me a tripod for my birthday but no, I’m not going to start that. I must say it would have been easier if I didn’t need anyone for this. Now I actually have nothing to complain about because I now regularly take my photos with a girl twice a week, but when I just started, this was the biggest struggle for me.

4. Tune it, baby

The apps I use to give my photos an extra touch are:

  • Vscom: choose one filter so that your entire feed becomes a whole. Otherwise, it becomes a mess, trust me.
  • Facetune: yes, I can be honest about that, right? If I have a pimple, it definitely gets removed with the patch. I smooth my skin and detail my eyes so they sparkle a bit. Just don’t overdo it. You probably know photos where you think: ooh, she doesn’t look like that in real life. Exactly that is what should NOT happen.
  • Snapseed: with this app you can make parts of your photo darker and lighter. Sometimes the photo is well lit, but my face is much darker than the rest, then I just swipe with the brush from the Snapseed app. Done!
  • Unfold: I sometimes use this app for my Stories. You should actually download it so you know what you can do with it. I put my photos in here, then it looks like a polaroid photo.

5. Hashtags

Use a few hashtags that relate to your photo at that moment. Food pic? #food #foodporn #apple #breakfast etc. etc. This way your photo gets seen more and this will help you grow. Oh yes, don’t forget to add the hashtag #LPlooks. This is my hashtag and I keep an eye on everyone who uses it. So fun to see all your photos and outfits. I get a lot of inspiration from that.

These were my golden tips, I hope you find them helpful. Don’t understand a thing? Send me a DM with your question, because questions are there to be answered. Good luck.
