These are the very best restaurants in Iceland

Whether I would like to go to Iceland at the invitation of Icelandair. With my sister. Uh, YES!! A little 24 hours ago we had another touchdown at Schiphol and upon returning home I knew I had to start with one thing immediately: the food. I think I have rarely eaten in a country where I had no food disappointment whatsoever. Literally. If you want to have an incredibly delicious dinner in Reykjavik, then I'm your girl. Save these addresses very quickly.

The Fish Company

If you think you know how fresh fish tastes, then definitely step inside here, only to walk back out with a blush on your cheeks. I understand that you are close to the source when it comes to fish in Iceland, but come on, this is out of this world. The sushi, the salmon, the white fish; EVERYTHING. IS. SO. FRESH. AND. DELICIOUS. If you are only in Iceland for a stop-over, I at least obligate you to eat at this place. Quite pricey, but worth every euro squared.

Lava Restaurant

I'll just assume for convenience that if you're heading to Iceland, you want to go to the Blue Lagoon. You know, that lagoon with geothermally heated seawater in the heart of a lava field. More on that later, but for now I want to tell you: go eat at the Lava restaurant for that. Choose the langoustine soup (the best I've had in my life so far), then have the catch of the day and finish off with the cheese trolley they serve at the table.

Sumac

As far as I know, one of the few restaurants downtown Reykjavik with Lebanese/Moroccan fusion influences. The hummus is insane. Please order it and then think back to this article. I can't even talk about the dates without drooling (we ordered them twice, so delicious), and also the meat (lamb is a specialty, I don't even like it but it was delicious here), the fish, and the wines are top-notch. Anyway, you hear it: I'm enthusiastic.

Sjávargrillið

So. Try to learn that name by heart. Okay, writing it down in your notes is also allowed. Go ahead and do it right away, because this is one you want to remember. Again because of: the fish. Although the desserts of Skyr (Icelandic yogurt), licorice meringue, and chocolate mousse are also not bad.

Kiki Queer Bar

Maybe a strange bite to eat since it's not a restaurant, but you understand that this is a place I was drawn to. Still in the mood to shake your hips in Reykjavik after dinner? Then head to the Kiki Queer Bar, recognizable by the hysterical rainbow facade. The only gay café in Iceland. Tip: definitely take advantage of that happy hour, because drinks are quite pricey in Iceland.
