This is the reason we have sex with someone we find unattractive

Let's be honest: have you ever woken up next to someone you thought: meh?

The chances are high that you have. And there's a reason for that. Because we all sometimes go to bed with someone, even if we don't find that person particularly attractive. Or sexy. Or appealing. Don't be shocked: this happens more often nowadays than in the past, and it has everything to do with the digital age we live in now. Look, most people meet each other in 2018 through an app. Or a website. It can happen that someone uploads photos to their dating profile that are just a bit more appetizing than how they look in real life. And that leads to unpleasant surprises on the first date, yes.

So what happens if you mentally click but don't find him or her that attractive? You drink a little more wine and hope for the best. You hope for a fun evening. And it does turn out to be fun and that becomes quickly a bit of sex, especially after wine number six. Then it doesn't really matter that there's a little bit of a bulge over the waistband. Not at all. You hardly notice it. Until the next morning arrives and the daylight hits a face a bit harder than you had hoped.

What turns out? More women (17%) than men (10%) regret having had sex with someone they find physically unattractive. And yet we do it. But we understand it too. Because it might be a bit old-fashioned to always look for the most attractive man or woman in the group. Maybe it's more of this time that you get to know someone through an app or chat and thus know that you like them as they are. If you then find a face that is ‘so-so‘, it matters less to you. You actually like him or her on the inside – and that's ultimately what it's all about. That's ultimately what you settle for, not the hunk or vamp.

In short, just do it if you feel good about it. And you can always still have sex with the lights off. Just sayin’.
